Loophead Peninsula
Hilltop B&B is located on the Loophead Peninsula, winner of the Responsible Tourism 2015 Best place to holiday aeward, and also on the Wild Atlantic Way scenic drive. Hilltop B&B is in an elevated location on the Loop Head Peninsula, overlooking the Atlantic ocean to the west and the Shannon river to the south. It has easy access to the fishing villages of Carrigaholt and Kilbaha, and is also close to the sea-side town of Kilkee with its beautiful sandy beach and the spectacular cliff scenery which you can enjoy best on the scenic drive, an alternative route along the coast between Kilkee and the house.

The Loophead Peninsula is European Destination of ExcelleNce (EDEN) Award by the European Union awards to little known areas off the tourist beaten track. The B&B is convenient for dolphin watching, angling, seafood restaurants and scenic walks on the peninsula.

Local festivals include the Carrigaholt Oyster Festival on May Bank holiday weekend, the Cross Trad Music Festival Weekend , in June/July (see full list of festivals on, and the Carrigaholt Family Festival in August.

The Loophead Lighthouse is situated at the tip of the Loophead Peninsula where the Shannon River meets the Atlantic Ocean- This iconic lighthouse tower is now open to the public in season. The visitor can take a guided tour up the tower and can go out onto the balcony at the very top. From this balcony one can see as far south as the Blasket Islands in Kerry and as for north as the Twelve Bens in Galway – a remarkable and unforgettable vista (Fees apply). A walk around the very tip of the peninsula itself is an unforgettable experience, with a good chance to see dolphins, seals, whales, sea otters and a variety of breeding birds.
